We kindly invite you to attend and report on the press conference to be held on May 7, 2025, in Sarajevo, at Maglajska 1 (premises of HUB 387, 3rd floor), starting at 11:00 AM, organized within the framework of the project “Right to the Future”, funded by the European Union and implemented by CARE International, in partnership with the Association of Roma Women “Better Future” from Tuzla and the Wings of Hope Foundation from Sarajevo, with the support of Action Deutschland Hilft.
The aim of the project is to ensure better access to services for Roma women and other marginalized girls and their families, by addressing gender-based violence, human trafficking, and arranged, child, and underage marriages.
The press conference will announce the key activities of this intervention:
Financial support for five Roma women’s organizations in five communities (Tuzla, Doboj, Prnjavor, Kakanj, and Visoko) through small grants totaling EUR 40,000. Through the joint efforts of these and partner organizations and CARE, young Roma men and women will be empowered through numerous peer education sessions under CARE’s “Program E.” Communication and joint problem-solving between local authorities and Roma communities will be improved through CARE’s “Community Score Card” methodology.
An innovative aspect of this project includes group and individual psychosocial sessions as support for young people, their parents, teachers, and members of the Roma Women’s Network “Success.”
Speakers at the press conference will include:
· A representative of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH (to be confirmed)
· Sumka Bučan, Director of CARE Balkans
· Indira Bajramović, Director of the Association of Roma Women “Better Future” Tuzla
· Snježana Mirković, President of the Association Romani Ćej Prnjavor
· Siniša Sajević, Executive Director of the Wings of Hope Foundation
Let us remind you that the “Right to the Future” project focuses on human rights protection and combating discrimination in Bosnia and Herzegovina by promoting gender equality and empowering Roma and marginalized women and girls. At least 20% of Roma women in BiH and 100,000 citizens will become more resilient to the risks and consequences of harmful gender norms and practices through community activities, education, campaigns, and cooperation between Roma and non-Roma organizations.
