BISI – Brčko Inclusive Socioeconomic Initiative

The Brčko Inclusive Socioeconomic Initiative (BISI) supports citizens of Brčko District by strengthening socio-economic inclusion and expanding access to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, with a particular focus on youth, women, long-term unemployed individuals, persons with disabilities, and members of the Roma community. Central to the initiative is the SEI Centre, operating in a facility provided by the Government of Brčko District. Spanning approximately 400 square meters across two floors, the space has been modernly equipped with new offices and a fully functional conference room, creating a dedicated environment for counselling, training, and collaboration. A professional team of four staff members—comprising experts in socio-economic inclusion, entrepreneurship, and two specialists in psychosocial counselling—delivers free counselling, career guidance, professional orientation, and tailored support for skills development and business planning. The Centre also houses a fully equipped business incubator featuring 10 office box cubicles, complete with business registration support and mail services for aspiring entrepreneurs. Through targeted training and requalification programmes, internship opportunities, and business incubator services, BISI has supported citizens in improving employability, gaining practical work experience, and developing new business ventures.

To date, the initiative has contributed to the employment of more than 40 individuals, enabled over 200 beneficiaries to complete requalification and skills development programmes, and provided soft skills counselling and career support to more than 400 citizens, reflecting strong community engagement and measurable progress. Additionally, 11 interns have gained valuable experience through placements in local companies. The project has also worked closely with local institutions, including the Public Institution Roads of Brčko, to remove physical barriers in key city centre locations, improving accessibility for persons with disabilities and facilitating easier access to important public institutions. Notably, BISI supported the establishment of the first-ever social enterprise in Brčko, led by members of the Roma community, representing an important milestone in inclusive and socially responsible economic development. Looking ahead, the intention is for the Brčko District Government to continue management of the SEI Centre starting in 2027, ensuring the long-term sustainability of these vital services. Through a combination of individual support services, partnerships, and structural improvements, BISI contributes to building a more inclusive, accessible, and opportunity-driven local economy.
