Association “Budućnost” Modriča has engaged community activists to provide support to the marginalized persons that are additionally affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The activists have helped them with chores, grocery shopping, visiting a doctor, preparing soil for planting vegetables and others thus contributing to strengthening of intergenerational solidarity within the community.

One of the activists, a retired special education teacher and school psychologist says.

After my voluntary engagement in the Safe House had ended, I started providing support for the elderly and ill. My visits make them feel safe and not left alone and gave them a feeling of having someone to turn to for help. When I was leaving after spending a day with them, I would always get the same question: “ When will you come over again”? It shows how lonely and vulnerable they are.

I’ll be taking part in voluntary activities in the future as much as I can as the old saying says: “When you take – you fill your hands and when you give – you fill your heart.

One of the beneficiaries pointed out that the help she received was extremely important to her.

“I have been living alone for years. One gets used to silence and solitude, but it is not easy. Only now, when I have help, I realize how nice it is to drink coffee and talk to someone, not to mention how much help I have “, said D.G. through tears.

The project is implemented by CARE International Balkans in cooperation with UG „Budućnost“ Modriča and financially supported by the  Austrian Development Agency
