Young Men Initiative – Boys and Men as Allies in Violence Prevention and Gender Transformation in the Western Balkans
The Boys and Men as Allies in Violence Prevention and Gender Transformation in the Western Balkans or Young Men Initiative (YMI) project builds upon CARE ́s comprehensive and programmatic effort to fight interpersonal and gender based violence (GBV) as well as to improve gender equality in the region. The YMI project will be implemented in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia and will target young men to build their knowledge and attitudes concerning gender equality and healthy lifestyles and to decrease levels of GBV. The Gender Transformative Life Skills program (Program M) is at the heart of this endeavour.
Young Men Initiative – Promoting Healthier Lifestyles among Youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina by Challenging Gender Stereotypes
Young people of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) face different challenges in many areas of their life and thereby present one of the major vulnerable groups in today’s society. The project that CARE proposes would contribute to bringing about positive changes in attitudes and behaviours with young people of secondary school age group that relate directly to health, violence and gender equality.

U periodu od 01. maja – 31. oktobra 2014. godine, realizovan je projekat »Djelujmo preventivno», koji je dio trogodišnjeg regionalnog projekta ”Aktivna inkluzija i prava Romkinja na Zapadnom Balkanu”, koji je podržan od strane CARE International, a finansiran od strane Austrian Development Cooperation. U implementaciji projekta su direktno bile uključene dvije organizacije: Centar za romske inicijative i Ženska RAE mreža »PRVA«, kao i pojedini članovi/ice Koalicije koja je formirana oktobra 2012.
Inicijativa mladića – dječaci i muškarci kao saveznici u prevenciji nasilja i rodnoj transformaciji na Zapadnom Balkanu
Dječaci i muškarci kao saveznici u prevenciji nasilja i rodnoj transformaciji na Zapadnom Balkanu ili projekt Inicijativa mladića (YMI) se oslanja na CARE-ove sveobuhvatne i programske napore u borbi protiv interpersonalnog i rodno zasnovanog nasilja (RZN), kao i na poboljšanju rodne ravnopravnosti u regionu. Projekt Inicijativa mladića će biti implementiran u Albaniji, Bosni i Hercegovini, Kosovu i Srbiji i biće usmjeren na mladiće sa ciljem izgradnje njihovog znanja i stavove o rodnoj ravnopravnosti i zdravim životnim stilovima kao i na smanjivanju nivoa rodno zasnovanog nasilja.
Inicijativa mladića – promovisanje zdravijih životnih stilova među mladima u Bosni i Hercegovini osporavanjem rodnih stereotipa
Mladi ljudi u Bosni i Hercegovini (BiH) se suočavaju sa različitim izazovima u mnogim oblastima života što ih čini jednom od najranjivijih grupa u današnjem društvu. Projekt koji CARE predlaže će doprinijeti donošenju pozitivnih promjena u stavovima i ponašanju mladih ljudi srednjoškolskog uzrasta koje se odnose direktno na zdravlje, nasilje i rodnu ravnopravnost.
Preporuke i zaključci konferencije „Imaju li Romkinje pravo na siguran život?“
Na konferenciji: „Imaju li Romkinje pravo na siguran život?“, održanoj u Sarajevu, 16-17. oktobra 2014 godine, učestvovalo je preko 70 učesnika/ca iz Bosne i Hercegovine, Crne Gore, Republike Srbije, Republike Hrvatske, Albanije, Makedonije, Rumunije, Španije. Konferenciju je organizovao CARE International Balkans uz podršku Ministarstva za ljudska prava i izbjeglice BiH i partnerskih organizacija uključenih u projekat.
Recommendations and conclusions of conference “Do Roma Women Have the Right to Safe Life?“
Over 70 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Republic of Serbia, Republic of Croatia, Albania, Macedonia, Rumania and Spain participated at the conference „Do Roma Women Have the Right to Safe Life?“ held in Sarajevo, October 16-17, 2014. The conference was organized by CARE International with support of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH and partner organizations involved in the project.
Political Participation Of Roma With Emphasis On Political Participation Of Roma Women In The Countries Of The Region
Strengthening of Romani women is three years long regional project imple- mented in four countries of the Western Balkan (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro). The project was directed toward strength- ening the position of Romani women, through active Romani women organi- zations in the region. CARE NWB had role of the project leader and mentor to the crucial partner organizations in implementation of project task.
SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS OF EDUCATION AND SOCIAL INCLUSION OF ROMA GIRLS IN SERBIA
There are 450 000 Roma living in Serbia or about 6% of the population, according to the estimates of civil society organizations and the country itself. Only 2% of Roma children are included in the system of preschool education, less than 40% are included in primary education, and up to 70 to 90% of Roma children who enrol in primary schools, drop out at some point.

The study analyses the national policies towards Romani women in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia, focusing on the policies in the sectors of education, employ- ment, health, housing, participation and gender-based violence.

The initial reason for CARE organization to come to the Balkans is a war that has caused the destruction, trauma, displacement and ethnic hatred. In the early years, CARE has focused on charity work and saving lives. Today’s goal of CARE in the Balkans is to ensure that social, economic and political rights of vulnerable and marginalized groups are recognized and fulfilled, thus contributing to sustainable peace in the region.

Investment for a Better Life! RESEARCH PAPER

Program M: Young Men’s Manual
The M Manual is a tool that developed out of the Young Men Initiative; a program by CARE International NW Balkans and its collaborative partners focused on addressing gender inequalities, harmful health practices and violence in everyday life with young men in schools and the community.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF ACCESSABILITY AND QUALITY OF BASIC EDUCATION FOR ROMA GIRLS
Project “Chances and Choices for Roma Girls” has been implemented by CARE Serbia office in Belgrade and Novi Sad Humanitarian Center, with financial support from the Foundation Patsy Collins. The project aims to contribute to the availability and quality education of Roma girls through improved institutional support to Roma girls, improved availability of educational institutions to the needs of Roma girls, and through increased awareness and knowledge about the importance of education for Roma girls in the Roma community.

Gender norms among young men in the migrant community in Serbia. This participative qualitative study was conducted as a part of “Welcome Initiative for Migrant Youth” project that aims to provide adequate protection for young migrants – unaccompanied minors settled in the reception centers in the South of Serbia, through educational workshops and awareness raising in issues like healthy lifestyles, non-violent solution to conflicts, gender equality, positive masculinity, counter-trafficking, and others. The IMAGES Serbia study addresses key issues in the field of men and gender equality, which include partner relations, the dynamics of family relationships, and the key health and social aspects of men. This report provides key survey findings using the IMAGES methodology which was developed by Promundo and International Center for Research on Women. The study has included quantitative and qualitative research components. The quantitative research was carried out on a nationally representative sample of 1060 men and 540 women 18-60 years old. Data collection was carried out in November and December 2017.
