This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first World Congress of Roma people. Actually, this is the 50th anniversary of the struggle that points the problems of Roma men and women and which aims to encourage the authorities to work on increasing Roma people involvement in all social flows.
Roma women’s organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina are considering themselves as a part of the global Roma movement and gathered through the first Roma women’s network in Bosnia and Herzegovina continuously warn society of the extremely difficult status of Roma women who are in a discriminatory position when it comes to employment, participation in political decision-making and governance in government institutions. Data from relevant institutions show that every second woman has experienced some form of violence and discrimination.
Form these reasons, the women’s Roma network “Uspjeh” launched the Month of Roma Women’s Activism campaign, which has been implemented for the eleventh year in a row. The campaign was created with the aim of pointing out the position of women with special emphasis on Roma women in BiH and the importance of their inclusion in the public and political life of our country.
In the period from March 8, International Women’s Day to April 8, World Roma Day 2021, the members of the Network will organize a series of activities that will include holding street actions, meetings with representatives of institutions at all levels and community events.
The campaign is implemented within the regional project “For Active Inclusion and the Rights of Roma Women in the Western Balkans III”, which is financially supported by Austrian Development Cooperation and implemented by CARE International Balkans.
